Almost dropped this show at episode two... It nearly put me to sleep.
Out of pure boredom I decided to watch episode three, then four and I am glad that I did.
Episodes 1 ~ 3
We meet....
Kazuya Kujou - He's the third {youngest} son of a Japanese solider, Having troubles living in his older brothers shadows he goes to study abroad at St. Marguerite.
In the Spring he arrives at the school, A very superstitious school with a lot of ghost stories.. "The traveler who comes in the Spring brings death with him" This saying and his dark hair/eyes grant him the nickname "Reaper" and most of the students tend to avoid him.
On his first day he goes to the Library and meets...
Victorique de Blois - A small, blonde haired girl who really looks like she came out of Rozen Maiden. She's a bit strange and almost always seems bored... Spending most {all?} of her time in the Library she's quite well read and intelligent.
The first few meetings with Kujou seemed a bit rocky but, After a couple mysteries the two of them have grown on each other.
By the third episode it's told that she and Grevil are siblings but, Only half. Her mother was a Mistress and described as a "Dangerous Woman", As a child of such Victorique was kept locked within the de Blois mansion for most of her young life and then sent off to school with orders not to leave campus.
Grevil de Blois - A detective, sorta..... He's really flaky and his hair makes him look as though he escaped from Shiki. He's quite annoying, When coming to the Library for Victorique's help he never talks "to" her... He talks to Kujou as if he were the one giving all the answers...
After "solving" the cases he of course takes all the credit for himself.
The First Mystery; The Maid Did It. Roxanne, an old fortune teller was murdered in her mansion. She lived there with her maid {Arabian} and manservant {Indian}, Her granddaughter came to stay the same night. Before the murder the maid was in her room, the manservant was outside... gun fire was heard and everyone went to the old woman's room.
The door was locked, The maid called out something but there was no answer... just as the manservant tried to use an axe on the door the granddaughter stopped him {she didn't want the door destroyed}. The maid pulled out her gun and shot the lock....
When the door was opened, The old woman had been shot thru her left eye. The window was locked and there were no weapons found in the room.
Victorique solves this pretty fast, No one understood Arabic so when the maid was calling out to Roxanne she was actually telling her to come to the door. The old woman was peeking out the keyhole when the maid shot the lock....
The Outcome; Grevil takes all the credit, gets rewarded {A Yacht}, Kujou confronts Grevil about it and... Grevil invites the two of them to go out on his gifted Yacht. With special permission from Grevil, Victorique is allowed to leave the school... Once she and Kujou meet Grevil at the Yacht he is called away on Police Business.
On the Yacht Victorique finds an invitation addressed to Roxanne, The invitation is to a dinner on a luxury liner nearby. And so they go...
Second Mystery; Going to the dinner with Roxanne's invitation, The "dinner" was drugged. Kujou and Victorique wake up locked in a waiting type room with ten other people.
Victorique is quick to point out that there were just nine other people in the dining room earlier, the two of them making it eleven and there are twelve people in the room. One of the people in the room is the culprit...
Everyone in the room believes that the ship is The Queen Berry that sunk ten years prior. The story is Ghosts raise the ship up on stormy nights, lure the living onto it and then it sinks again killing everyone on board.
The next events are pretty easy to guess, The lights go out, writing on the wall, they all run around and most everyone ends up dead. The reason behind it all however is not ghosts....
Outcome; Julie was the culprit, This was her way of getting even for the events that happened to her ten years ago on The Queen Berry. All the people on the ship were somehow connected to it...
The Queen Berry was a test ship of sorts.... Eleven orphans from around the world were taken and placed on the ship. Having a major language barrier they had troubles communicating with one another.
One of the kids was "murdered", Obviously since they were the only people on board it was one of them who did it. This lead to paranoia and... they started to turn on one another. Julie was one of the orphans, She found a "friend" on the ship amongst the chaos and she, the friend and two others made it safely to the ships Radio room.
What did they find? A bunch of men in suits and the "murdered" orphan quite alive. It was a test, The nationalities of the orphans that survived was French, Italian, American and Sauville {The fake dead guy was England.}.
Roxanne was also involved, with her fortune telling and running of the hares... She raised hares, released them and set the hunting dogs on them. The ones who survived she used to tell the future. The Orphans were the hares, England was the hunting dog, It was a way of fortune telling of who would survive in World War One.
Each of the surviving hares were given large sums of money, Julie couldn't get over what had happened on the ship and was in a sanitarium for many years. When she was released she used all the money to recreate the ship... and arrange everything else.
To top it off, Roxanne's maid was the "friend" that Julie made on the ship... She was taking her own revenge with shooting Roxanne.
