I wasn't entirely a shut-in this past weekend.
Dragged the dad to the St. James Court Art Show for a little field trip, I wasn't expecting him to actually want to go but he seemed pretty into going. We don't really go into downtown that often so navigating the roads and where to park is always a challenge, Add on top of that thousands of people in for the art show and you have a near impossibility.
Our aim was for the Spalding lot for 5 dollars but when we found it there wasn't a soul in sight and the signs were foreboding. Next Lot Please. The Brown Hotel garage, Yes...thank you. We've parked there before for other events and it turns out the 6 dollars got us a free tarc ride too and from the show.
I was just happy to have someone driving that knew his way around the city, Thank you Mister Tarc Bus Driver.
What you get with this show is 600+ dealers trying to sell you their hand made goods for sometimes insane prices while being surrounded by hundreds of strangers. I personally liked looking at the houses in Old Louisville more then about 90% of the art that was present.
You also get camera Nazi's, No Pictures for You. I tried for a couple but got glares... even when I was aiming at the houses. Pfffffff. If I go next year I'll just bring my cell and do the sneak snapping that I saw so many others doing.
Only one thing really stuck out for me.... these colorful, glow in the dark puffer fish like clay ornaments hanging in one booth, The guy also had some fairy frogs and other creatures but those puffer fish were just adorable. Sadly, I did not come prepared to actually purchase any art and I didn't get his name or if he had a website... Afterthoughts always plague me.
Some paintings were nice to look at, crystal craft deals, metal works... lots of things that would sit around and require much dusting. Did I say there were a lot of people? Dodging the rotund mounds noshing on corn dogs and funnel cakes was the greatest adventure of all. Seriously people... Watch where you're going. It could mean life or death to my toes.
In the end I came away empty handed.
Obviously not recent but... The Pink Palace of St. James Court!
Much nicer House.
